just say what you really mean

extra busy this week.
dear ol' dad had out-of-town doctor appointment.
darling delightful aunti had the same.
well not the same doctor,
but out-of-town appointment.

dad's appointment is at 11,
doctors office a 40 minute drive.
me: " what time do you want to leave?"
dad: "10:15"
me: "sounds good."

9:30 dad's dressed.

"we have to leave soon" he said
to his pajama-clad-just-finished
vaccuming-his-house-daughter.
me: " i'll be ready".

9:55 he puts on his coat.
10:01 "the train leaves the station".
i drive under the speed limit.
we arrive 17 minutes early.
dad: "well we have some extra time."
my mind chuckles,
my mouth speaks
"we might as well go in"

day #2 of the doctor tour.
my aunt's appointment is at 10.
it's a one hour drive.
me: "what time do you want to leave?"
she: "how about you pick me up at 8:30"
me: " no problem."
that means i need to leave my house at 8.

7:45 a.m my phone rings.
me: "good morning darling aunti!"
we share a few seconds of chit chat.
she: "i'm ready to get to this appointment"
me: "i'll be leaving in 5 minutes."

8:20 i pick up this cutie-pie.
9:15 we are close to the destination
she: "we didn't need to leave quite so early,
i guess."
my mind chuckles
my mouth speaks
"well, this way we built-in time for
whatever."

9:32 a.m. we are in town.
doctors office is 3 minutes away.
she: "oh my. i should remember you can get us
here in an hour."

so...
the whatever happens;
we go to the shoe store and shop!

  1. You have such a good way of telling the tale. Funny, I have a doc appt. tomorrow at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for my mammogram. It takes 2 and a half hours to get there and I don't consider it "out of town." I wish you would drive me. :)
