i cannot keep quiet

i've participated in a few things in the last 48 hours that are
disturbing to me.
also heartbreaking, frustrating and head shaking.

i attended a library meeting on thrusday 
regarding summer reading programs.
there is always a theme.
in fact a theme for 3 age groups.
the kids theme is "Dream Big..read."
nice. to the point.
theme for teens is "own the night."
what???
i see this a bit distortedly.
what do they mean by this?
personally i think you tell some teens to
'own the night' and its like saying
go do whatever you want. legal or not.
hmmmm
it gets better/worse.
the adult theme is....
"under the covers".
yes, that's it.

okay, so maybe it's my disjointed mind
but why does the library system think they have
to use sexual inuendo to promote book reading?
seems a bit degrading to society, not to 
mention the library.
i don't like it, 
can you tell?

tonight brown eyed handsome man and i saw a movie.
we decided to see the hunger games since it seems
to be the rage. 
and we can't base an opinion on something we don't 
know about.
sigh.
 i did not read the book.
and i will say the movie was well done.
there was great tension, uncertainty,
a decent ending, not overwhelmingly
graphic, etc.
but. 
..... no i mean 

BUT  

i am sad that this type of movie 
is entertainment. my morals are offended.
i am saddened.
innocent children killing each other
for the entertainment of a privileged society
in the movie,
and then WE go and watch this.
that makes me on equal footing with that society in the movie. 
bleh.

it just makes me sad.
wounds my spirit.
seems contrary to some words of wisdom 
i've read,
"Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about
things that are excellent  and worthy of praise." 
Philippians 4:8. 

marching around, or setting up games of killing
just don't fit in with those words.
and yes, i know most action movies have
good guys and bad guys and killing, etc.
doesn't mean i like them.
doesn't mean i would take my young child to them.  
it was sad to see the number of young kids in attendance.
watching. no adults there at all.


the realities of life are sometimes hard enough
that for entertainment i don't need to up my 
stress level.


okay. 
you read the books.
you liked them.
you saw the movie.
you liked it.
that's your option and opinion.
i have 4 kids who've done all or both.


and 4 kids who said
"mom, you won't like the movie".


they are right. 
at the risk of sounding like my dear momma
"what is society coming to?"
